The 2009 Africa Space Camp "Journey into Deep Space" took place from September 28 [Monday] to Friday October 2 [Friday] 2009. The 2009 camp will be part of the inaugural Africa Space Fest

The 2009 Africa Space Fest is a milestone and unique event for the African continent.
We celebrated World Space Week, International Astronomy Year and the establishment of the South African Space Agency.

During the Fest, school students, including students living and going to
school in disadvantaged school communities, used cutting edge
technology in innovative ways to

  • receive tuition from lecturers of international standing
  • track asteroids through remote access telescopes
  • converse with students in various countries on different continents ----------------------------------
A highlight of the camp was the lectures given by Francois Visser of CPUT/F'SATI and Professor Abdelouahab Zaatri of the Laboratory for Advanced Technology Aplications [LATA]
over the Internet to an international audience in countries like Algeria, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, and Koweit
