MOBILE ROBOTS - 2010
Devyanin International Scientific and Technical Youth FestivalDear colleagues! The Devyanin International Scientific and Technical Youth Festival "Mobile Robots - 2010" will take place on October 3-10, 2010.
The Festival is organized by:Lomonosov MSU Institute of Mechanics, Moscow Power Engineering Institute (Technical University), Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics RAS, Ishlinsky Institute for Problems in Mechanics RAS, Trapeznikov Institute of Control Sciences RAS.
Presidium:• V.A. Sadovnichy, the Rector of Lomonosov MSU, chairman of presidium.
• Yu.M. Okunev, the Director of MSU Institute of Mechanics, vice-chairman of presidium.
• S.N. Vasilyev, the Director of Trapeznikov ICP.
• S.V. Serebryannikov, the Rector of MPEI.
• F.L. Chernousko, the Director of Ishlinsky IPM.
• B.N. Chetverushkin, the Director Keldysh IAM.
The Festival in general:Participation in the Festival is concerned with involving modern methods of higher education, basic knowledge in general mechanics, control theory, mechatronics, etc.
Our Festival is the only youth-oriented scientific and technical festival that takes place on a regular basis in Russia as well as abroad in France. Events of the Festival have been attended by university students and school students from different countries.
The main event of the Festival is the competition of autonomous mobile robots. It is held at a special controlled range, which is equipped with a system of infrared beacons and a track painted on its surface. Along with the main competition there are demonstrations of robots and other competition programs, wide-range exhibition of robotic devices, and competitions of program systems, like virtual soccer.
The competition is followed by a scientific workshop where young scientists and participants may present the results of their work. The materials are published as a dedicated collection of works "Mobile robots and mechatronic systems" by MSU Publishing.
Preceding Devyanin Mobile robot Festivals that started in 1998 were attended by teams from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Taganrog Technological Institute, Moscow Institute of Radioelectronics and Automatics, Ikar Sports and Technological Center, Moscow Automechanical Institute, Moscow State University of Instrument Engineering and Computer Sciences (Russia), ISTY (France), AJOU University (Korean Republic), ESTI (Tunisia), Puebla University (Mexico), and others, and also by teams from schools of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The rules of robotic competitionare available on the web site of the Festival:

Events of the FestivalThe Scientific conferenceIt is held during several days. The report topics are concerned with modern problems of robotics as well as with problems and issues that arise when the teams develop their robots. These issues may be not evident, and arise only at implementing a particular device. The articles are published annually as a dedicated collection of papers.
The mobile robot competitionHere the teams introduce their custom-built robots, each being a unique device. The robots must perform tasks autonomously. This requirement makes a major difference between our festival and many other international competitions. The competition rules are changed annually, preserving some tasks and introducing more complicated ones, thus gradually approaching complex practical tasks of robotics and automation. An award is given in each task category. The robots compete not only technically according to task regulations, but also for specially issued audience choice award.
Demonstration of robots and modern robotic systemsModern robotics is not limited only to tasks of our competitions. We invite all developers of robotic systems to demonstrate their achievements, make contacts and exchange experience. There is a special award for best demonstration.
The virtual soccer tournamentThe participants develop algorithms of group behaviour of robotic soccer team. Unfortunately, not all algorithmic solutions can be implemented in silicone and steel. Sometimes such implementation takes a lot of resources, and is hard to adjust for perfect work. This implies to collective behaviour of robots in various environments. The Festival provides possibility of competition to ideas implemented as computer programs and challenging each other on a virtual soccer field. The match can be viewed at a PC monitor or a projector screen.
School sessionLeading university professors give lectures, and a special demonstration of various systems and mechanisms is organized for school students that are interested in robotics to grasp the core basics of robotics. Besides, a special competition between school teams are held as well as special demonstrations. This helps expand the age limits of Festival participants and create a contact between robotic enthusiasts of different age.
